General

What is the difference between Storro and cloud services such as Dropbox, Google Drive and OneDrive?

The difference with cloud services is that, with them, you send your data to a third party. We feel that your information is none of their business. You use a third party for storing and sharing your data. That other party can and may, however, do much more with your data than is often thought. Because these parties store information of many more organizations, they have become an attractive target for hackers. And (foreign) government agencies often have access to your data.

At the Storro company have the opinion that only you and the people you authorize should have access to your information. And therefore Storro saves your data only on the machines of the people with whom you share files. Your data is not being sent to the Storro company. So we cannot even provide access to your information, even if we wanted to.

Imagine you share a document in which you work together with colleagues and clients. With Storro, only those who must have access to that specific file, receive a physical copy of that file. And nobody else gets that information, or can also view but. That includes us.

Besides complete privacy, Storro gives you unparalleled security by encrypting your information automatically, then cutting that encrypted information into small pieces, and storing them distributed. This makes it more difficult for a malicious actor to get hold of readable information in comparison with centrally stored information in the cloud, especially when the cloud owner has a copy of your decryption keys.

With Storro, if you are connected to the same local area network (LAN) as your peers you do not need internet access to collaborate with your peers. This decreases your dependency on internet uptime and allows you to transfer files faster.

Storro also provides features such as revision control, audit trails and automatic backup. This is not only very useful, but can also yield substantial savings.

For whom is Storro intended?

Storro provides secure collaboration within and between organizations. This makes Storro ideal for companies that work with privacy-sensitive or confidential information, such as consulting, banks, merger and acquisition teams, users of medical data, researchers and juridical information.

Privacy and Security

Who can see my email address?

Storro B.V. uses the email address you provided to send the invoice. We will not share your personal information with third parties unless we are legally obliged to do so. This is also explained in our Privacy Statement.

How safe is my data?

With Storro you and your data enjoy unparalleled security and privacy. We don’t give your personal information to third parties unless we are legally obliged to do so, as explained in our Privacy Statement. Your data is being kept extremely secure. If you want to know exactly how our security measures work, please read the technology page. In short, it works in the following way. We protect your data in two ways. First, we use the strongest encryption. This encryption is at the same level as the encryption that shields the launch codes of nuclear weapons. We encrypt the data, the connection and the access to data is cryptographically enforced. Second, in case the encryption would be broken, only the project members have a copy of the your data. And no one else. So even in case encryption is broken, there is no third party that can go through your data. With Storro, you are in control of your data.

Can someone see all my projects or know they exist?

Others can only see the projects for which he / she is invited. Only if someone has access to your system, someone could discover the number of projects which are part of it – but they could never see the contents of those projects, unless they are logged into your account.

Will my data be backed up outside my project?

Only you and the members of that project have a copy of the data. Storro automatically spreads the data through this group, which thus immediately makes a backup of the data by saving it redundantly. Do you want to save a copy on another machine, without that machine being able to access the data? Make sure this member is a Facilitator. Storro B.V. does not get a copy of your data. Therefore, Storro B.V. therefore has no backups and cannot provide backups.

Is my personal information shared with third parties?

We will not share your personal information with third parties unless we are legally obliged to do so. This is also explained in our Privacy Statement. We cannot grant third parties access to your data, because we do not have a copy of that data.

Your files are encrypted and stored on your own hard disk and on the hard drives of the project members of the types Administrator, Participant, Observer and Facilitator. The data is only accessible if Storro is running.

Do I put my data in the cloud with Storro?

No. Storro does not put your data on systems of third parties, but only on systems of people you have invited yourself.

I have added the wrong user to a project. Can I reverse this?

Yes. You can remove a user if you are the project Administrator. If you remove a user from a project before that user has accepted your invitation, that user will not have received a copy nor receive a copy of the project files. He / she has received an invitation email, but the invitation cannot be accepted.

If you remove the user after that user already has accepted the invitation and is (partly) synchronized, that user at best has (partly) access to the data until the moment then remove order was sent. The removed user will no longer receive project updates of changes made within that project.

Remove a user from your project by going to Members tab. Select the user you want to delete. Now, click on the Actions in the bottom right corner and select Remove this user.

Currently there is no option to perform a remote wipe. This is planned for a future release of the Enterprise version of Storro.
